Introducing Athlingerie: Virtue’s Evolution of Sexy and Sporty for Every BODY
Did you know that the jockstrap recently had a birthday? 150 years old! The ultimate daddy. While the history of the jockstrap is fun and fascinating—originally designed for bicyclists (or bicycle jockeys) to protect their bits while cycling over cobblestones—the past century and a half has shown that the true beauty of the jockstrap lies in its evolution. It’s a history we’re happy to be a part of, and it’s also where our concept of “athlingerie” comes in.
Today is a new dawn and 2024 marks a new beginning where Virtue reimagined the jockstrap for everyone and every BODY,
with new pouch and compact fits along with a new indie category called Athlingerie.
Let’s start with a math equation. It’ll be a fun one, promise.
Athletic + Leisure = Athleisure. You’ve seen this one before. And for good reason! We love comfy clothes that can go from the couch to crossfit.
But what about athleisure clothing that can make you look sexy? And not just on my way to yoga class sexy, but I must have them now sexy. Those are two very different looks. They’re also two very different feelings.
At the beginning of the equation, the jockstrap is athletically utilitarian. Whether on a bike, a football field, or at the gym, it provides protection and support. Like a push-up bra for balls. Because of the design, gay men gravitated toward it and claimed it as an intimate piece and a fashion statement, fashion designers found inspiration in it, and jockstraps started to get a couture upgrade that would trickle down to influence the designs sold in sex shops.
So, the jockstrap can protect men’s packages and give it an extra oomph. It’s for men playing sports or playing with others. That’s fine, but it’s also pretty masculine—I mean, you can practically smell that last sentence. What if there was a jockstrap that felt a bit more demure, more playful, more enticingly sensual? Yes, that’s where lingerie comes in. Instead of the thick, bulky polyester and faux-cotton codpieces of the traditional jockstrap, our founder Fashion Designer, Yotam Solomon looked to luxury lingerie for inspiration to bring a little femininity to a hyper-masculine piece of clothing.
So athletic + lingerie = athlingerie? Yes! But the leisure is still in there too—it’s just silent. Because most breast owners would probably admit that their sexiest push-up bra is not their most comfortable bra. But with Virtue, everything is designed with comfort in mind. VTouch Comfort Fabric “The Most Comfortable Wear” VTouch follows you from work to working out to being worked over. All while staying supple, soft, and supportive.
That’s the other part—all this “men” and “women” talk is exhausting. Every body needs exercise. Every body needs to feel sexy. And every BODY deserves comfortable undergarments. It’s not about gender, it’s about creating clothing suited to the body.
Virtue is proudly evolving the legacy of the traditional jockstrap into a genderless athlingerie that brings power, performance, and pride to everybody who wears it. Virtue’s V-Straps shape, sculpt, and squeeze the butt in all the right places. Whether you want room or a snug fit Virtue’s comfortably versatile athlingerie has you covered in our signature pouch or compact varieties, because gender-neutral is the future and we don’t need men’s and women’s categories it’s unsustainable and not ethical.
And from the couch, to crossfit, to the club, Virtue has comfort at its core. The V-straps bring classic lingerie sexiness, easy to unhook to create playful patterns across your peach—even use as a handcuff or choker. But they can also be used as a hair tie, or adjusted for comfort and support at the gym.
We respect our elders, and love that the traditional jockstrap is still going strong, but Virtue is proud to be something new, something genderless, and something that has everything. That’s why we’re athlingerie.
